Booz Allen’s onboarding experience—called Launch—provides the building blocks to help them accelerate their careers, connect with leaders, find mentors, develop professional skills, and more.

As San Diego’s Launch Lead, Bekah Ekstrom helps employees feel connected to the firm beyond their first day. “From day one, our employees’ first-year journey is critical,” says Bekah. “We want our employees to feel supported and empowered as they become acclimated to the company. Their year-long onboarding journey includes learning the basics of consulting, building functional skills, understanding our business, and making connections that can last a lifetime.”

Booz Allen’s senior leaders in San Diego chart a dynamic path for employee growth and staff development opportunities, regardless of a new employee’s designated team or project. San Diego Recruiter Alexa Montgomery explains, “We work in close-knit, connected teams. Employees wear multiple hats—they can become experts in both consulting and cyber, for example.”

1. Volunteering for veterans and military spouses: San Diego employees organize participation in the annual Salute Military Golf Association tournament to help rehabilitate veterans through golf. Booz Allen also supports the Hiring Our Heroes program, and its efforts to assist veterans transition to the civilian workforce and establish employment networks for military spouses.
2. Supporting women in their careers: Booz Allen’s San Diego Women’s Forum, in partnership with the San Diego Chapter of Women In Defense, offers workshops, conferences, and local learning opportunities.
3. Encouraging students in STEM: The San Diego team supports STEM education programs for both students and teachers at the USS Midway Museum with interactive learning activities and events.
4. Innovating at local schools: At Hoover High School's Academy of Information Technology and Kearney High School's Education to Entrepreneurship (E2E) Innovation Lab, students learn hands-on about cybersecurity and networking from Booz Allen’s local subject matter experts.
5. Building inspiration one block at a time: Employees coach, judge, and mentor young innovators at FIRST LEGO League competitions. (Big shout out to Booz Allen-sponsored Team 2543, TitanBot.)
