During National Volunteer Month in April and every month, Booz Allen employees are taking action to tackle society’s greatest challenges and using their time, money, and skills to build stronger, more vibrant communities. Booz Allen empowers them to maximize their impact every step of the way.

Booz Allen employees possess valuable acumen in data science, digital innovation, project management, and more. In partnership with the Community Impact & Philanthropy team, employees can apply their professional skills and expertise to support formal pro bono engagements or volunteer skills-based projects.
“We know that our employees live to serve and solve on the front lines of progress and that skills-based volunteerism and pro bono work are among the ways that we can all make a difference,” said Christine Hoisington, director of community impact and philanthropy and executive director of the Booz Allen Foundation.
In fiscal year 2022, which ended March 31, Booz Allen employees from across all sectors of the firm were selected to participate in specialized consulting projects and provided in-kind, pro bono support for seven nonprofits, at a total value of over $500,000.
For skills-based volunteering, Booz Allen engages employees with opportunities like a recent project with the Network for Victim Recovery of DC (NVRDC). This project leveraged the research and facilitation skills of 13 Booz Allen employees and received NVRDC’s “Championship Award” for leadership in skills-based volunteering.
Another example: the firm’s skill-based volunteer marathons with the Taproot Foundation. Over the course of 2 days in April 2022, 39 Booz Allen employees worked with 11 nonprofits to identify actionable, sustainable solutions for their capacity-building challenges.
What’s next? “Looking ahead to the rest of 2022, several of our firm-led pro bono and skills-based volunteerism projects will align with our three philanthropic priority areas: empowering a future pipeline of diverse talent, making innovation accessible to all, and driving equitable community resilience,” Hoisington said.
Booz Allen encourages employees to respond to crises in the world by matching their donations dollar for dollar to crisis response campaigns. Donations and matching in support of Afghanistan and Ukraine relief efforts and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities totaled over $400,000. The firm’s annual December employee match campaign generated over $1.7 million in 2021.
Employees also see their giving amplified through Booz Allen’s Impact Rewards Program. Here, eligible employees who volunteer with an approved charitable nonprofit earn $5 rewards for each volunteer hour, up to $1,000, that they can donate to a nonprofit of their choice. In fiscal year 2022, Booz Allen employees donated over $138,000 in Impact Rewards.
“The Impact Rewards program is the firm’s way of recognizing employees’ commitment to community service above and beyond their day-to-day jobs,” Hoisington said.
Booz Allen employees logged 49,184 volunteer hours for fiscal year 2022 , and many of these hours are for events they planned themselves.
Employees also help shape Booz Allen’s philanthropy and community giving through the firm’s Community Engagement Council (CEC). Roughly 100 employee volunteers represent their offices and business teams and empower localized community impact efforts where they live and work.
“As the strongest link to local community and team cultures, CEC representatives serve as the liaisons to our corporate team and help ensure that the firm’s commitment to sustainable social impact is felt in communities across the nation,” Hoisington said.
